Since taking office in May, Cllr Alun Barrett has undertaken a wide variety of engagements, often ably accompanied by the Mayoress, Cllr Sylvia Barrett. These have ranged from civic occasions in Llandudno and neighbouring towns through opening shops, presenting prizes at sporting and social functions, to attending private functions such as 100th birthday parties.

Here are just a few of the engagemetns undertaken:

For Town Twinning, the Mayor and Mayoress joined other local people on a visit to our twin town of Wormhout in June/July for their International Music Festival.

In July they attended a Parade in commemoration of the Falklands conflict and the official opening of the Deganwy Quay Hotel by the Earl and Countess of Wessex. This was followed by visits to Llandudno Fun Day and the Llandudno Carnival.

In August the Mayor attended the National Sailing Championships hosted by Llandudno Sailing Club, followed by the Home International Table Tennis Tournament in September. He was also proud to receive a Silver Gilt Award on behalf of the town at the prestigious Britain in Bloom Awards in Coventry.

The Mayor also took the salute at the RAF Valley Freedom Parade through the town in September, and later performed the opening ceremony at the new Tabernacl Heritage Centre.

Recent invitations have included Christmas Fairs, Carol Services and a visit to patients in Llandudno Hospital. The Mayor and Mayoress have thoroughly enjoyed their year so far and look forward to many further engagements in 2008.

Cllr Billy Evans and Deputy Mayoress Mrs Alwena Evans, have been happy to stand in for the Mayor and Mayoress when they have been unable to fulfil certain engagements due to their busy schedules.

Some of these occasions have included an Awards Evening at Ysgol John Bright, the start of the annual Cambrian Rally, the St. David's College Carol Service and Ysgol y Gogarth's Christingle Service.
