The Mayor, Cllr Mrs Ann Yates, was born in Leicester in 1941 into a large family of six brothers and four sisters! Times were hard for the family but the Mayor recounts that her and her siblings had instilled in them to have good manners, keep clean and smart and not to be envious of others. The children were also encouraged to have determination and to make their own way in life.

The Mayor attended Marriot Road Junior School before moving to the Sir Johnathan North intermediate school for girls at the age of 11. She left school at 15 years and took any work that was available to help the family as money was short. The Mayor  married at the age of 21 and has two lovely daughters.

 Sadly, at the age of 18, Cllr Yates lost her mother, and subsequently two brothers who died at 25 and 26; one whilst in the army and the other through cancer.

Later in life, Cllr Yates took up a career in nursing, before successfully developing and owning five catering businesses.

Following her retirement ten years ago, she stood for Town Council election in May 2004 and has been a serving member since for a total of six years.

The Mayor is very proud to have been elected to serve the community that she loves.
