Gold Award for Llandudno in the prestigious RHS Britain in Bloom Competition 2023
Llandudno in Bloom is delighted to have been awarded a Gold award in the Coastal Category in the UK finals of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition – the UK’s biggest community gardening competition.
44 community gardening groups, who had all impressed their local judges the year before, were nominated to represent their region or nation in the UK Finals 2023. Britain in Bloom involves over 3,000 community groups and hundreds of thousands of local volunteers who work year-round to keep their neighbourhoods green and thriving.
Amongst its many gardening initiatives, Llandudno was recognised for its planting at South Parade, Happy Valley, Haulfre Gardens and Llandudno Museum and conservation and preservation work on the Great Orme and at St Tudno’s church. The group also impressed the judges with its strong sense of identity and pride of place, its outstanding partnerships with schools, particularly Ysgol San Sior and the high number of Friends groups that have formed throughout the town working on projects in their areas.
The Mayor of Llandudno, Cllr Greg J T Robbins commented: I wish to thank all involved in our very successful results in the Britain in Bloom finals. I especially would like to acknowledge the hard work of the Bloom & Streetscape Environment Committee, the many Friends groups and individual volunteers and Conwy County Borough Council Open Spaces team. As a result of this combined community effort Llandudno was rewarded with a Gold Certificate in the highly contested Coastal category.
I am also very proud to say that Llandudno also won an award for the way the various groups encourage younger people and get them involved. Well done to everyone involved with this important work in our community. This was particularly reflected by Ben Jones from Llandudno winning one of only two Young Champions Awards. Many congratulations to this brilliant young man from our town for his achievements and please carry on the great work!
Judging Day – Royal Horticultural Society’s Wales in Bloom competition
Each year Llandudno enters the Royal Horticultural Society’s Wales in Bloom competition.
